Umniah & Wewins 5G Outdoor FWA Deployment in Jordan

Case Overview

As Jordan accelerates its transition toward nationwide 5G commercialization, reliable and high-speed wireless broadband has become a critical enabler of digital growth. Since September 2021, the country has actively prepared for the introduction of 5G services, aligning with global projections that estimate 1.7 billion 5G subscribers worldwide by 2025

At the forefront of this transformation is Umniah, one of Jordan's leading mobile network operators and a licensed 5G service provider. As part of its strategy to upgrade existing 4G infrastructure and expand next-generation connectivity, Umniah has been exploring Fixed Wireless Access (FWA) solutions to deliver fast, flexible broadband services-particularly in scenarios where fiber deployment is limited or time-intensive.

Turning this vision into operational reality requires not only advanced network infrastructure, but also operator-grade customer premiss equipment (CPE) and trusted technology partners. Wewins, working in close collaboration with Aurora Tech, was selected to support Umniah's 5G FWA preparation and deployment through customized, carrier-ready device solutions.

Addressing Operator-Grade Requirements for Outdoor 5G FWA

For Umniah, deploying 5G outdoor FWA services involved far more than introducing a new access device. The operator required a solution capable of supporting large-scale outdoor deployment while meeting strict technical, operational, and security standards defined by its core network and security teams.

Beginning in 2023, the project focused on the preparation and evaluation of multiple 5G FWA devices to support diverse usage scenarios, including:

  • Outdoor broadband access
  • Indoor fixed wireless connectivity
  • Mobile broadband use cases

Among these, the outdoor FWA solution became a key priority as Umniah prepared for its phased 5G rollout beginning in 2024.

From Integration to Validation: A Rigorous Acceptance Process

The selected outdoor 5G FWA solution underwent a comprehensive, operator-level acceptance process, including:

  • Laboratory testing
  • System integration
  • Field validation

One of the initial integration milestones was the implementation of TR-069 remote management enabling centralized device monitoring, configuration, and lifecycle management within Umniah's existing network framework, Leveraging Wewins' experience in large-scale operator deployments, the required TR-069 parameters were implemented and validated efficiently.

Subsequent testing phases were conducted in close coordination with Umniah's core network and security teams. These evaluations covered advanced customization and optimization requirements including:

  • Web UI customization
  • CQI configuration
  • Band locking
  • Network security compliance

In total, the project involved more than 120 individual testing items, reflecting the depth and rigor of operator-grade validation.

Supporting Real-World 5G Deployment Scenarios

Designed specifically for outdoor broadband access in fiber-limited environments, the deployed solution enables Umniah to extend high-speed 5G connectivity across a wide range of real-world scenarios, including:

  • Residential broadband access
  • Enterprise connectivity
  • Infrastructure deployments requiring reliable, low-latency wireless links.

By combining robust hardware design with flexible network integration, the solution supports Umniah's objective of delivering consistent, high-quality broadband service while reducing deployment complexity and accelerating time-to-market.

Moving Toward Commercial Deployment

Following the successful completion of all testing and validation stages, Umniah issued official testing approval for the outdoor FWA solution as part of its first-phase 5G rollout.

The project is now progressing in line with Umniah's commercial deployment plans and is actively supporting 5G network activities across Jordan.

A Collaborative Foundation for Digital Transformation

This collaboration between Umniah, Wewins, and Aurora Tech demonstrates how close coordination between operators and technology partners can significantly reduce deployment risk while accelerating 5G FWA commercialization.

By enabling flexible and scalable 5G FWA deployment, the project contributes directly to Jordan's broader digital transformation objectives-supporting next-generation broadband access and emerging 5G + IOT use cases.

Wewins remains committed to supporting operators through scenario-driven design and flexible customization, helping build future-ready networks that evolve alongside market and technology demands.
